Abbott Ahead of the Curve

As of April 2nd, Cincinnati city council candidate Vanessa Abbott has published her official campaign website and press release. Opponents Grant Brock and Larry Moreno have yet to publish their press releases and web pages.

Abbott’s platform, posted on her web page, focuses on developing the local economy and improving the education system, both of which she expands upon in her larger press release. Regarding the local economy, she emphasizes working on behalf of small businesses, supporting both regulations and tax cuts. Concerning education, Abbott proposes more city-wide early childhood programs. She also notes the extreme shortage of teachers, and advocates for incentive programs to motivate educators to join the Cincinnati school system.

Additionally, Abbott adds a statement about the opioid crisis to her platform, promising to direct city action and funds to rehabilitation services and “fighting this epidemic.”

In closing, she reminds voters that her isolation as the only female and Republican candidate does not distract from her devotion to her city. “I am running for a position on city council solely to help Cincinnati. I want to make a difference and answer this call to public service. I’m interested in making a difference, not power and politics.”

The press release is available to the public via the Abbott website. The Abbott team also announced that the first press conference with the candidate will be next week Wednesday, April 10th, from 12pm-1pm in the Clocktower Lounge of the Gallagher Student Center on the Xavier University Campus.
