Pivotal Debate Set For Friday

The Cincinnati City Council race is heating up. With the days of the election set for Monday and Tuesday, the three candidates have less than a week to win the support of the electorate. A debate is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 p.m. and will be moderated by The Daily Dishrag. The rest of the week will be pivotal to the Brock, Moreno, and Abbott campaigns.

Last week, The Daily Dishrag held a Meet the Press show in which candidates were interviewed about their positions on a variety of issues. Grant Brock impressed our commentators in the way that he handled himself in comparison to his initial press conference. In his interview with Colin Cooper, Brock opened up about a DUI that he was arrested for when he was twenty-two. Larry Moreno also had a strong interview. He discussed various key issues, including the environment, infrastructure, and business. Vanessa Abbott’s interview went less smoothly than the others. At the debate, she looks to clarify the comments she made in the Meet the Press interview. According to her campaign, she left room for speculation in her policies and ideas. Moreover, Abbott will be looking to beat the candidates without taking them down, but rather talking herself up.

For the debate on Friday, the three candidates will take the stage in front of three moderators from The Daily Dishrag and a live audience. The moderators will ask questions directed at individual candidates with one minute to respond. After a candidate concludes their statements, the other two will have a chance to respond. The Daily Dishrag encourages a back-and-forth exchange between the city council candidates. We look forward to seeing how Brock, Moreno, and Abbott will respond under pressure from the moderators and one another.
