[The Brock campaign released a statement this afternoon shortly after The Daily Dishrag broke the story about his DUI]

A MESSAGE FROM GRANT BROCK
When I decided to run for city council, I knew I would have to come to terms with my past. Transparency is central to this campaign, so in the best interest of the voters, I’m coming forward with my driving record.
In the summer after graduating from UC, my friends and I decided to have a bonfire in my backyard. During the course of the evening, there was an accident that resulted in one of my friends breaking his femur in two places. In an adrenaline filled rush, I decided to take him to the hospital to myself, instead of waiting for an ambulance.
I was pulled over on my way and charged with a DUI. I recognize the consequences could have been much more severe than they were, and to all the victims of drunk driving I would like to express my regret. I am thankful, and lucky, that no one was hurt due to my actions, and my friends was taken to the hospital safely. Driving while under the influence, even under a situation like this, is never acceptable.
This experience is part of the reason why I have been emphasizing public transportation as part of my platform. I am devoted to making sure no one makes the same mistake I did, and making sure that people have a safe way home goes a long way in preventing drunk driving.
I am not the same man I was when I was 22. I have given back to Cincinnati through my Pens to PowerPoints initiative as well as countless hours fundraising for CPS, veterans, and various green energy projects. While I can’t change the past, I have control over my own future. I’m sorry for letting you down once Cincinnati, I promise I won’t again.
Yours,
Grant Brock
